Bryher
Bryher (literally, "place of the hills") is the ideal Island for walking and beachcombing.
Spring brings a vast array of colourful wild flowers; in the autumn, gales lash the west coast and give Hell Bay the chance to show how it came by its name. The east coast, by comparison, overlooks the sheltered channel to Tresco. Bryher is served by launches, which dock in these calmer waters. These same waters are also ideal for diving and snorkelling.
To the north of the Island, dramatic rocks punctuate the heathland of Shipman Head Down, and to the south, the small and beautiful beach at Rushy Bay looks across to the uninhabited Island of Samson.
There is little farming left on Bryher these days. This - along with its exposed and open aspect - makes the island appear more of an authentic 'wilderness' than the others. Despite this, there's a small and friendly working community and a range of accommodation, including a three star hotel, small guest houses, self catering cottages and a campsite. In addition, you will find a shop, sub-post office, cafés and Scilly's smallest pub.
