St Martin's
St Martin's is the first view of the Islands for those arriving by ferry from the mainland. St Martin's encapsulates the Islands’ many contrasts: small flower fields lead down to sandy sheltered beaches; heaths of purple heather and yellow gorse lead up to towering cliffs, while granite cottages overlook small boats in the bay.
Between Easter and October a regular boat service links St Martin's to the inhabited islands. There are also frequent trips to the Eastern Isles with their seal and bird colonies, and to many of other uninhabited islands. You can snorkel with seals off the Eastern Isles, or follow a course at the BSAC registered diving school. Fishing trips are available, too, and the island's gigs "Dolphin" and "Galatea" can be seen in the inter-island races every Wednesday and Friday.
There are grocery shops, a bakery and gift shop. You can explore the Island on a hired bike and buy fresh fish, crabs and lobster from the Island's fishermen. There are two art galleries offering courses and lessons, and the Island also boasts it's own vineyard. A visitor centre behind the Island's fire station offers information about St Martin's rich historic and natural environment.
Accommodation includes a first class hotel, guest house, camp site and self catering cottages.
