Sustainable Development Fund

The Isles of Scilly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a nationally important protected landscape, renowned for the richness and diversity of its landscape, seascape, habitats and cultural heritage. The AONB designation safeguards Scilly’s vibrant community and ensures that the Islands’ unique resources and special qualities are conserved. The Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) is one mechanism to help keep the AONB special.

AONB Sustainable Development Funds provide grants for innovative projects that conserve and enhance the landscape, the community and contribute to sustainable development in protected areas. An award is made annually by Defra, a government body responsible for issuing SDF grants to all AONB’s in England and Wales. Each AONB has its own grants panel which administers the fund. Sustainable development is not just about conserving the environment. It also improves quality of life now and for future generations.
