The Marine Survey completed in 2009 runs in line with the Management Plan's aim to maintain all valuable marine and coastal species in a favourable condition and to be sensitive towards it's management.
In 2008 the Isles of Scilly AONB Partnership commissioned a Marine Survey of 100 dive sites in the seas around Scilly. The research, carried out by local divers (Tim Allsop and Anna Cawthray), was designed to establish the current status of the marine environment, the species that it hosts and to give direction to future management of Scilly's marine environment.
Scilly's marine life is rich and diverse, with the seas around Scilly being home to a number of rare species. Rare, uncommon and vulnerable species were recorded at many dive sites, including the Pink Sea Fan, Sunset Cup Coral and Eel Grass among many others.
The Isles of Scilly AONB Marine Survey was completed in 2009 and now represents a baseline data-set on which future research can build.
